secure & digitised at the RCB Library

In April 2012, the Church of Ireland collaborated with the An Garda Síochána, to digitize and make available the content of the earliest surviving watch books in Ireland - from the parish of St John in Dublin - online for the first time. This appeared as the RCB Library's April's "Archive of the Month" feature, but continue to be available at this permanent link:

Like the Garda, the Church of Ireland had a Directory of clergy rather than police (published annually since 1862) and a Gazette (published on a weekly basis from 1856). The earliest edition of the Church of IrelandDirectory, as well as the 1913 edition, together with all 52 issues of the 1913 Church of IrelandGazette have been digitised. Continuing the Church's commitment to mark the Decade of Commemorations, the digitization of the 1913 editions of the Gazette are a particularly informative resource and the fully-searchable format search engine, using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), enables multiple users to recover hidden information.
